The holidays are here and that means plenty of time with family, as well as newfound hope for the New Year. For their resolutions, many determine that they will find a new job once the calendar turns over. But why wait?
There’s no better time to find a seasonal job than right now, and it’s not just because holiday shopping is in full swing. While retail leads the way in hiring, other industries are also eager to take on staff in the coming months.
If you haven’t started looking yet, you’ll want to hit the ground running. There are a large number of open positions - you just have to know where to look. The following industries will see a spurt in hiring in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year:
- Retail (49% of employers planning to add staff)
- Customer service (37%)
- Administrative (19%)
- Accounting (16%)
Many companies look to fill positions left open by staffers taking extended time off or vacations, and they use staffing agencies to find workers with flexible schedules. A commonly held misconception is that once the holidays are over, these companies will let you go, but that isn’t the necessarily case.
CareerBuilder reported that 62 percent of organizations plan on making seasonal workers full-time once the more tenured employees return from their vacations. This means that taking a seasonal job is one of the better ways to get in the door at a business.
As you make plans to get together with family and friends, don’t forget to take time to look for a seasonal job. You’d be surprised at how what was once a part-time gig could turn into a career.
